UPCOMING EVENTS

104th anniversary of the first victory of the Allied Forces for the liberation of Gambela- Assossa-Saio during the rage of the WWII (1940-45).

The event is organised by the Union of African Traditional Chiefs and Global Connections Builder Vision in collaboration with the ‘Génération Académie des Beaux-Arts and will take place on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, at the roundabout ‘Force Publique’, route  Assossa in the Borough of Kasa-Vubu.

The deep historical ties between DR Congo and Ethiopia trace back to 1885 during the creation of the Force Publique following the Berlin Conference. The early collaboration has involved Zamzibarits, Houssa, and Ethiopians who accompanied the explorer Henry Morton Stanley and who became the first soldiers of the Force Publique. Furthermore, in 1904, four Ethiopian students who were co-founders of the Ethiopian Progressive Association in the UK have had previously studied at the Congo Institute (founded in 1889 in Colwyn Bay, North Wales).

A symbolic march of remembrance will be led by Congolese traditional chiefs and will begin from the streets named Ethiopia, Gambela, Assossa, and Saio and end at the roundabout Force Publique. This will commemorate the courageous sacrifice of Congolese soldiers who contributed to the liberation of Ethiopia and the eventual return of Emperor Haile Selassie from his exile in London in 1941.
